What is a PDF File?

PDF (Portable Document Format) was developed by Adobe in 1993 and has become the global standard for sharing documents. PDFs preserve the exact layout, fonts, images, and formatting of a document regardless of the software, hardware, or operating system used to view it.

PDFs are used in virtually every industry — from legal contracts and academic papers to government forms and business reports. Their ability to maintain consistent formatting across platforms makes them the preferred format for official documents worldwide.

This viewer renders PDFs entirely in your browser using Mozilla's pdf.js, so your files are never uploaded. Pages are virtualized — only the pages near your viewport are painted — which keeps even thousand-page documents fast and memory-light.

Common Questions

What is a PDF file?

PDF (Portable Document Format) is a file format developed by Adobe that preserves the layout, fonts, images, and graphics of any source document, regardless of the application used to create it. PDFs are widely used for sharing documents across different platforms and devices.

How do I use this tool?

Simply drag and drop your PDF file onto the upload area, or click to select a file from your device. You can also paste a URL to a PDF file and click "Load". Your file is rendered instantly in your browser — no server uploads required.

Is my data secure?

Absolutely! Your files never leave your device — everything is processed locally in your browser. We have no servers that store or process your content.

What is the maximum PDF file size supported?

There is no strict file size limit. Our PDF viewer processes files entirely in your browser, so performance depends on your device's memory and processing power. Pages are virtualized, so even thousand-page documents stay responsive.

Can I search inside a PDF?

Yes. Open the search bar (or press Ctrl+F) and type at least two characters. Matches are counted across every page, you can jump between them, and the current match is highlighted and scrolled into view.

Can I select and copy text from a PDF?

Yes. Where the PDF contains real text, a transparent text layer is overlaid on each page so you can select and copy it normally. Scanned or image-only PDFs have no text layer and cannot be copied.

Are there page thumbnails and a document outline?

Yes. Open the sidebar to see a thumbnail of every page (click any thumbnail to jump to it). When the PDF includes bookmarks, the document outline is shown above the thumbnails for quick navigation.

Can I view password-protected PDFs?

Yes. If your PDF is password protected, you'll be prompted to enter the password to unlock it. The password is used entirely within your browser to decrypt the file locally and is never sent to any server.

Can I view PDF files from a URL?

Yes. Paste any direct URL to a PDF file in the URL input field and click Load. The file will be fetched and displayed in your browser. If the server blocks direct access due to CORS restrictions, we offer a proxy option to load the file through our server.

Is there a fullscreen mode and keyboard shortcuts?

Yes. Expand the viewer to fullscreen for distraction-free reading. Keyboard shortcuts include Ctrl +/- to zoom, Ctrl+0 to reset zoom, Ctrl+F to search, Ctrl+P to print, Ctrl+R to rotate, and Escape to close search or exit fullscreen.
